The School Slump

If you are back in school, you might notice that you're feeling a little off. Maybe you're overly exhausted or irritable. Maybe you are both. Going from summer back to school is an adjustment. This process of getting back into the school routine can be very tiring.

Personally, I've found myself to be tired most of the time and in bad moods way more often than usual. This St. Louis heat doesn't help either. A combination of the miserabley hot weather, getting back into a routine, and making your brain come off of summer mode will likely cause you to be crankier and more tired.

I promsie you that you're not losing your mind; you are adjusting to going to classes. For my college students, you might be impacted more especially if you're a freshman. Transitioning from summer to school already isn't easy, but adjusting to a new environment makes that even more challenging.

The school slump is real. It's most likely to happen during the first week. You may even experience it at different times during the semester. Wtith that, persevere through it! You got this. Graduation or getting that degree is completely worth it.

In this time of transition, be kind to yourself and have grace. Be gentle in the way you talk to yourself. Be understanding that adjusting is kind of hard, and remember that you'll get into the swing of things- it just may take some time.

How do you cure the school slump? It takes time to adjust, but also take great care of yourself. Get enough sleep, exercise, eat healthy, journal, listen to yourself, and do what relaxes yourself. Academics can be brutual sometimes, but life looks up. Keep the end in sight in mind. Remember why you started. Positive affirmations can help as well.

Thank you for reading. I hope school is going well for all of you. If it isn't, note that things will get better.

With love,

Lauryn Pyatt
